J. D. Carton and Son has been providing quality moving and storage services since 1953. The company was started in the home of John D. Carton and his wife Mary in Springfield, NJ. The company quickly out grew their living room and was relocated to Summit, NJ, where the company experienced steady growth.
Their son, John W. Carton, came into the business in 1962, to continue the expansion process and add management depth to the company. This growth triggered the construction of the company's new headquarters in Chatham, NJ. This facility opened new opportunities for expansion and served the company well for over 30 years. Upon retirement of the founder, John W. Carton purchased the company in 1975, taking the company into its second generation of family ownership.
The third generation of Cartons would soon join the company. John W. Carton, Jr. started his career in 1980 driving trucks, packing boxes and working office moves during college. Upon graduation from college in 1984, he started full- time as the operations manager. From there he went into sales and sales management. By 1997, he was the company's general manager and in 2000, became president. Brian Carton also worked his way through college by driving, packing and working on office moves. After graduation from college in 1994, Brian started in domestic, international and account sales. He became Vice President in 2000, and is in charge of sales and customer service for the company.
The third generation soon expanded the services the company offered to their customers and the company again grew in size. This growth prompted the construction of the company's new headquarters in Parsippany, NJ. The company took occupancy of the new facility in January 2000, keeping the Chatham building for their growing record storage business. In addition to moving into the new building in January of 2000, John W. Carton sold the business to his two sons. Additional construction soon followed with a large addition on the Parsippany building for their growing record storage business. The Chatham building was sold and the archive center was moved into the new addition. The third generation of owners, John Carton, Jr. and Brian Carton, are looking forward to many years of providing quality relocation services to their customers.
